A sought-after palm for landscaping. Very hardy. Handles windy spots and shade/full sun. Fast-growing, large palm. Tolerates coastal conditions. Very popular.

- Under optical conditions, the species is one of the fastest-growing palms
- In New Zealand 5m after about 10 years.
- 15m in habitat but up to 23m in cultivation.
- The trunk diameter – in wetter more tropical areas exhibits thinner stems (20cm) vs drier, less tropical areas manifest thicker trunks 45-50cm.
- In general, old dead leaves do not last long on the palm. Technically not a self-cleaning palm so you may need a chain saw on a pole once established.
- Yellow pendant branches bearing unisexual blossoms.
- Their marble-like seeds can be a health and safety issue if you step and slide on them!
