Common names ‘Coco’, ‘Coco cumbe’
The high mountain areas of the Andes in Coloombia, Ecuador and Bolivia are the habitat of this rare palm. Known only from cultivated specimens, it is tall and solitary, with a crown of finely divided, sometimes twisted, pinnate leaves. It is hardy, prefers an open, freely drained site, thrives in temperate climates and is tolerant of limited cold periods. Mature fruit is green to brown.
