Mount Lewis Palms are Australian (north eastern Queensland) and grow to a max height of approximately 12m at maturity. They have purplish crown shaft, gives way to the elegant leaves. They feature a thick single trunk that grows quickly in New Zealand. However the slowest growing of the Archontophonenix species.

- One of its common names is purple king palm (The epithet is Latin for ‘purplish’).
- Mature trucks attain 15-18m in habitat and 12m in cultivation.
- They usually shoe diameters of 45cm.
- The crown shaft is 1.2m tall, slightly bulging at the base.
- The leaf crown is no more than 6m wide and 4,5m tall.
- The leaves 1.8-3m long.
- Leaf colour is bright grassy to deep green above, silvery or greyish green beneath.
