A medium-large, spectacular popular cycad with glossy foliage. Develops a thick trunk. Extremely hardy. Excellent landscaping cycad. A stunning garden specimen.
Named after Count Peroffsky, an Imperial Russian Minister.
From David L Jones Cycads of the World: ‘With an erect truck to 7m tall and 40cm diameter. Mature leaves 2-3m long, dark green. Occurs in south-eastern Queensland and north-eastern New South Wales in coastal and adjacent districts. This species grows on protected slopes and gullies in wet sclerophyll forests, along rainforest margins and in littoral rain forests, sometimes on stabilised dunes. Soils are usually well -structured, humus-rich loams. The climate ranges is from subtropical to warm.
This species has been reported as surviving temperatures down to -5 degrees. It can be grown in full sun and filtered sun and also performs well in complete shade.It makes an excellent tub plant for conservatories and well lit situations in doors. It is fast growing and responds to applications o fertiliser, mulching and watering during dry periods. They tolerate moderate to heavy frosts.’
